Khayelitsha’s Monwabisi Njomba needs R30 000 in order for him to go and represent the country in Japan in April.

Njomba(38), a second dan black-belt holder in Karate, has been selected to take part in the 23rd NGKKI International Seminar Hirano Cup.

The championship will take place at Wakayama City in Japan from the 21st to the 29th of April 2019.

He said he fights the Goju Ryu karate style and he will represent the Do Kuyu-Kai South Africa in the tournament.

Njomba said the trip will cost about R30 000 and he can’t fund the trip from his own pocket.

He said money has been his biggest challenge in the sport.

“It is difficult for a township boy or girl who depends on a grant to go far in the sport because it requires money,” he said.

Njomba said the money factor becomes a problem because it means one can’t participate in local and international tournaments.

He asked anyone who can help him to do so by donating whatever they have so he can realize his dream.
