Only those who grew up in the era of the LP’s and 45” records will attest to how irritating a scratched record sounded. Once the needle was stuck in the same tiny groove, you could only hear repeated sounds of the song, until one went over the record player, lifted the needle and placed it in the next groove. When the LP then or the CD now is scratched, it doesn’t matter how hard you clean it, the scratch seems permanent.I sure hope readers who have been following my articles over the years, have gained a thing or two regarding my writing style. You may have laughed at some of the stories.I may have touched you in one way and that I hope helped to change your lifestyle. I could have hit the nail where it hurt the most and you may have taken offence. I would have exposed some things that you were not aware off and that created tension in your circles. I could have said a couple of things about your favourite club.I could go on and list a lot of things that we as writers are judged on. What do you do then? Do you stop writing and just say you are scared of offending anyone or exposing anything? Do you choose areas to touch on or become one of the biased ‘bomaqalazive’ who report on things the way it will sound good to their ‘blessers’.Now I have painted two scenarios and you are wondering how do these link? Well as we start the year 2017, I promise not to sound like a scratched record. I will continue giving you what I always know is good for you. I will always shy away from the volatile political arena because at this juncture things are about to become very interesting. I will always ask the question though about the status of our so-called freedom to see if it is benefiting the masses out there. I will talk about sport even though I have been told that if you want to loose weight faster and quicker take six steps that Pirates took last season. Enjoy people, unyaka uqalile.PS: When lost, ask for directions!
