Young maskandi artist from Gugulethu Bonginkosi Sibiya is taking the music industry by storm with his latest album that was released last year.

Sibiya, who is affectionately known by his supporters as “Uschizi”, resides at Tambo Square.

Uschizi (22), originally from Nquthu in KwaZulu Natal (KZN), is currently promoting his latest album called Uyaganga. He said he released his album with 12 songs in August last year.

“I started singing in 2014 as a backup singer for a group called Isishingishane back at home.

“And in 2017 I came here to Cape Town and that was where I met my manager Sizolile Ntame and became solo,” he said.

The soft-spoken artist said he got the music gene from his family.

“Music is something that is in my family. My grandfather was playing the guitar and my aunt, Winile Sibiya, is a lead singer for Amatshitshi Amhlophe,” said Uschizi.

He said he composes and compiles his music by himself. “My music caters for everyone. I do sing about love and also have church songs.

“But most of the time I do sing about life in general and my experiences in the industry,” he explained.

He said he featured artists like Qhabula from KZN, Scorpion and Shinga Leminyaka both from Eastern Cape in his album. He said he already shared a stage with Amawele kaMamtshawe. “For promoting my album I do sing at taxi ranks, weddings and cultural events,” he said adding that his album is R80.
