Whether you are a book worm or ‘cypher hopping’ Hip-hop head, chances are, you will take Homeboy’s message to heart. You see, Homeboy-born Bongekile Nqiyam-is an author cum rapper who has diversified his message for effect.

The 25 year old has just released his first official solo project titled “Kasi Library” with the lead single Ghetto Prayer, which is an open letter to other artists preaching about unity and teamwork.

Nqiyama said that his album is a collection of important messages, hence the title.

A natural born story-teller, he uses music and literature to send his messages of addressing social ills.

“I do understand that some people are not interested in Hip-hop so I have to pen down my message in a book,” he told CityVision. His foray into music began in 2013 around the same time he fell in love with writing his own lyrics.

“I believe if you are gonna rap or write about something, it has to be worthwhile and it has to have an impact in the community. This is why you only find positive messages in my music and my writing. I am not about the hype and the violence that you often find in Hip-hop,” he said.

He said his other project is to publish his first book, titled Ivuthiwe Mawethu which is a collection of short stories.

“The stories are fictional but they are influenced by things that I have seen in my home town of Engcobo and here in Site C, which is where I am currently residing. There is a lot of drama and lessons to be learnt,” he added. The book is set for release mid 2016, if all goes according to plan. Meanwhile, he is shopping around for publishers. Kasi Library features producer Aylo from Purple Beats Records. It is available at the African Music Store in Long Street, and retails for R50.
