COLUMN: How much of yourself do you really know

I guess if you want to have a good life, you have to be in tune with good things.

This is what you have to do: You have to be in control of your thoughts.

It is not easy to be in control of your thoughts. There is this voice in the head; that likes to talk a lot.

Out of the blue, it will drag you to the mud. And you will find yourself going back to bad things.

And sooner you will believe in bad things. Not all people are good.

People are cruel. There is nothing ever good in this world. We are born to suffer. That’s for sure. Why are we poor?

We are poor because people are selfish. And the media reinforces this.

We see them reporting on corrupt officials. And that strengthens our belief. And whatever we do is lacklustre.

It isn’t for achieving anything. We just do things for the sake of doing them. To get away from this mindset is not easy. We play a part in this mindset. We like to believe things are not good.

And we get on with it. We do the same. We say everyone is doing it. If you can’t beat them join them! And so the collective mindset is bad. I guess this is what is stopping us from having a good life.

And by good life I don’t mean having a crate in a boot. I don’t mean the blaring of music in a car. I don’t mean having different girlfriends or boyfriends all over the show.

I mean what you do not want to hear. I mean what you may refer to as boring because it is not exciting. It does not invoke fun. Where you see people drunk not knowing what their names are.

I don’t mean that. I mean something else. It is micro. It is individualistic. It is you. You yourself! I mean you. How much do you love yourself to think about what you want to be in life?

I don’t mean think about it in a flash and then it is gone. The voice takes over. It talks about bad things. Reinforces your belief. And produce action that is lethargic. I don’t mean that.

I mean really sitting down and think about how you think. And ask, “What is wrong with my thinking? Why do I think bad things? And how can I be aware of the voice? And what can I do about it?”

When you ask such questions, this is sitting down. This is thinking about things. It is not flash. And do you think you can think about good things when you do that? You can start. And this is what you have to do. Stay positive.
