Young people that have completed their matric have a chance to further their skills to help them with their chosen careers in future.

Innovation Hub Africa, based in Philippi, offers a programme that equips young people with skills for the future to pursue careers in the digital world.

The year-long course is offered at no cost to the students and this year’s intake is made up of between 30 to 40 students.

Programme manager Brandon Vergotine said the hub provides access to opportunities that will unlock the potential of the next generation, ultimately connecting them to the local and global digital economy.

“Our programmes are developed to equip innovators with digital skills through world-class training material in a safe conducive and encouraging learning environment to see them become people of influence for the future of their community,” said Vergotine.

He said those that are interested in joining the programme can apply online and visit their office for an in person questionnaire.

Vergotine said they have limited space and they look at those who would best fit the focus of the course.

Former student Aviwe Myoyo (23) said being part of the programme brought a lot of opportunities for him.

“Growing up in the townships as young people we do not always know what opportunities are there for us in terms of employment or starting up our own businesses,” Myoyo said.

Myoyo said as a result he managed to start his own marketing business with the skills he learnt from the programme which he says is doing well at the moment.

Myoyo said he would encourage other young people to sign up for the programme because it helps a lot.
