To celebrate Human Rights Month, South Africa’s most accomplished businesswomen, together with Standard Bank, elevated the power and impact of advancing gender equality with the launch of the 2018 series of Top Women Conferences.

Charting the next success stories of South Africa’s top entrepreneurs, Cape Town played host to this year’s first Top Women Conference by providing the ultimate platform to address the challenges facing gender empowerment and women-driven economic growth.

Continuing the success of fifteen years of the Standard Bank Top Women Awards, the newly founded Top Women regional conferences occupy the gender justice space across South Africa with the Western Cape kick-started the regional conventions on 15 March 2018 at Crystal Towers Hotel.

The pioneering symposium responds to the pertinent questions surrounding the barriers to success for women entrepreneurs, with a showcase of some of South Africa’s most influential business luminaries.

A gathering of renowned thought leaders, mentors and change drivers, the Top Women Conference brought together veteran businesswomen and newcomer entrepreneurs for a programme of exchange.

Top Women have designed an innovative programme that allows women entrepreneurs a rare opportunity to be fast tracked to high-level networking with trade executives, to grow their business acumen and skills development through panel discussions, and to gain valuable exposure for their business ideas in unique pitching sessions to top captains of industry.

Director of Standard Bank Top Women, Karla Fletcher said “Our ethos at Top Women is a community built around the spirit of mentorship, with successful women uplifting others to pursue success to an equal degree, and collectively sharing knowledge gained through experience to help all community members advance.”

“We are passionate about exemplifying and driving gender empowerment and our Regional Conferences contribute to driving growth throughout different spheres of the economy by offering the relevant tools needed for women to break down the barriers of access to markets. We look forward to showcasing some of the most successful stories and strategies implemented in the development of leadership roles for women, and connecting entrepreneurs to key influencers who are serious about economy-wide progress.” The event, celebrating its 15th anniversary year, will once again acknowledge the most sustainable and most successful gender empowerment strategies of organisations, across all sectors, in the August 2018 awards ceremony.
