Silulo Ulutho Technologies. in partnership with Vodacom Business, launched the Silulo Business Incubation Centre in Mitchells Plain last Friday.

The launch of the incubation centre echoes the sentiments of President Cyril Ramaphosa on the development and support of small business in the country.

The partnership paves the way for SMME’s to become fully digitised and thus enhance the productivity of their businesses.

Through the use of technology and the Vodacom Business product suite, Silulo hopes to transform and digitise Small, Medium and Micro-sized Enterprises (SMMEs) in South African townships and empower and create opportunities for entrepreneurs in communities such as Mitchells Plain and the broader surrounding areas.

The Silulo Business Incubation centre will, amongst other offerings, give township-based entrepreneurs a space to incubate their business ideas, and grow their businesses with the aid of the centre which has a targeted focus in development through entrepreneurship education, mentorship and training and various service offerings for SMME’s.

Speaking on behalf of Silulo Business, Luvuyo Rani explained that the incubation centre is made up of an 18 seater co-working space in the Watergate Mall. Entrepreneurs making use of this space will have access to Wi-Fi, a professional business environment from which to operate, as well as an invitation to attend targeted monthly networking events. Business mentors will be on hand to act as credible sounding boards for ideas and initiatives.

“The incubation centre also offers a multi-purpose training centre for dedicated workshops aimed at delivering practical entrepreneurship education to the entrepreneurs and interested community members,” says Luvuyo.

Vodacom Managing Executive for SME and Indirect Channel, Ismail Gani says: “The SMME segment is central to the South African economy and on this basis Vodacom is committed to aiding growth and development of SMMEs. As Vodacom we continue to review our strategies to engage small businesses with a view to create measures that would contribute to sustainable business development.

Our partnership with Silulo is one of several initiatives to empower and grow small businesses. The drive towards the “Digital SMME” is a key initiative of Vodacom. It is critical that big business ensures that our small to medium enterprises are part of the fourth industrial revolution.

Our partnership with Silulo extends beyond the Incubation Centre. Silulo effectively becomes a vehicle for SMME’s to become fully digitised by tapping into Vodacom’s product suite for small businesses.

The Silulo Business Incubation Centre is built on Silulo’s solid foundation within communities – having serviced communities for many years. Vodacom is confident that this partnership will empower the SMME community towards digitisation and enhanced productivity.
