What started as a forum for neglected local entertainers, has evolved to become one of the most looked-up-to-go-to lifestyle events ko Kasi.

The next #Indibano event will takes place at NY50 on Gugs on Sunday 31 January.

This event has set tongues wagging and has social media abuzz as the first event were local entertainers get together to organise an event.

The event is the result of talks by a movement calling itself “The Hub” which contains local event organisers, artists, Djs, artist managers, photographers and other creatives.

“We started last year planning for a support structure(for local artists) where local entertainers can exchange knowledge and improve the local entertainment industry.

Our biggest tiff was that in Cape Town you find event organisers from other provinces staging events here, whereas locals are overlooked.

We are expected to perform for free in exchange for exposure. Meanwhile they are prepared to fly in artists from the other provinces and pay them well,” said The Hub's Thabo Mobo.

The group decided to set up The Hub to make sure that locals are in charge of the entertainment industry in the urban market.

“We needed to show that when we are united, we are able to host events that are on par with those of other provinces and create something special.”

That’s how #Indibano was born. It’s an inclusive event which will have two stages for DJs and performing artists, tshisanyama and a carwash will be available and there is a no entry fee,” said Mobo.

The event has drawn many an enthusiast since it was announced, something the organisers did not anticipate.

“The interest in the event was unexpected but we prepared well. There will be security and we will be performing in a properly controlled environment,” said Mobo.

Mobo added that the group is hoping to formalise their structure to continue their work of empowering other creatives.
