Injongo Primary School from Khayelitsha came out victorius when they won the u.11 Site B Cluster Tournament which was organised by the provincial department of education.

The two day tournament was held at Ikhusi Primary School from Wednesday 13 November to Wednesday 20 November.

Injongo trashed Ikhusi 2-1 in the final and walked away with a trophy and gold medals.

Only six primary schools participated in the tournament which includes Sobambisana, Ntwasahlobo, Sakumlandela, Ummangaliso, Ikhusi and Injongo.

Teacher and coach at Injongo Akhona Msingizane said he was impressed by the commitment shown by his boys during the tournament. “The boys were determined to win the tournament. They were disciplined and playing as a team. For them wearing a new kit boosted their confidence on the pitch,” he said, adding that it was their first time using the new kit (“Injongo receives new soccer kit”, City Vision, 26 September 2019). Msingizane said their aim is to defend the trophy next year as it is an annual event. He described the school as rich in sport and choral history.

Captain Aviwe Ndevu thanked coach for his tireless effort and work on reviving soccer at the school.

“The coach told us to play our normal game and play as a team.

“It was not easy but we managed to push ourselves because we wanted to win the tournament,” he said.
