Western Cape Kuyukai chief instructor Emmanuel Dyantyi is appealing to the community to assist him with funds to be able to attend the International European Goju-Ryu Karate Seminar that will be held in Belgium next month.

The seminar will start on Monday 13 May till 20 May. Dyantyi who is in 5th dan (black belt) described the seminar as one of the historic moments in his life. “It’s my first time testing for my dan outside the country. All my five dans I got here (SA),” he said adding that he will be testing on Thursday 18 May.

He said his concern is funding to go abroad.

“I’m trying to raise R22 000 for the whole trip. It is R12 000 for return flight tickets, R7 000 grading fee, R1 000 seminar fee and R2 000 for accommodation,” said Dyantyi.

He said part of the seminar is to empower instructors with skills and knowledge so that they can give back to their countries.

He said he started training karate in 1980 under his trainer the late Patric Plum at Zolani Centre in Nyanga.

He described him as a gold medallist. “I’ve been in the sport for many years and I’m no longer practising karate anymore. I am an instructor. I was appointed last year as a chief instructor and the SA Kuyukai vice-president,” said Dyantyi.

He cited that practising karate instills discipline, fitness and builds self-esteem.
