Integrity comes with responsibility of deeds

2018-03-08 06:00

On several occasions, people are wont to put the blame for their shortcomings on others.

This is because it is easy to find faults for the works of others.

It is a deep seated human folly to do those kinds of things.

A simple question we need to ask ourself is, when was the last time one took accountability for the collective project they were part of?

Think about the projects/activities that you were part of in the past two or six months.

I’m sure one can see some faults of their own doing. The question is, did you take accountability or responsibility for such shortcomings.

Accountability is taking full responsibility for your actions.

We can’t separate integrity from accountability.

Integrity demands that we hold you to your word, to keep your appointments.

How many times have we fallen short of our promises, and thus dented our integrity.

Do you feel good when people cannot trust what you say.

The big question is what action are you intending to take in order to restore trustworthiness.

I’m sure as you are reading this, you wondering what is the point I am trying to drive home.

But imagine a country living on lies and no one chastises them for that.

On more than one occasion, people have demanded a written apology from public servants or politicians as they believed they have been lied to.

Politicians make promises they never fulfil. If its easy for people to demand accountability from others then why not hold themselves accountable?

As ordinary people, we need to take accountability for the failures of this country. its us who elect the people in parliament. We need to be responsible with our actions. Whatever wrong is happening is a true reflection of our being. Its not them or they, but us.
