Island Stars coach blamed ill-disciplined players for losing against log leaders Ithemba Labantu at Vuyiseka Sport Complex. The two teams, playing in the Philippi East Football Association, locked horns on Sunday 25 August. Stars ended the weekend in position seven on the 16 team league after a 4-2 defeatStars coach Nqaba Tete said he had to improvise after some of his regular players went awol. “Five of my players didn’t pitch up for the game. I had to field junior players against a formidable team like Ithemba Labantu,” said Tete. He added that some of his players also had a stage fright which resulted in them committing silly mistakes during the game. “Three of the goals that we conceded were silly mistakes. It was only one goal that was a cracker and was kicked outside the penalty area. Also, my goalkeeper was a junior and doesn’t have enough experience,” he said. However, he praised his boys for scoring two the goals. “There was no way that we could win against a strong team like Ithemba with the weakest team. With only seven games left in the league, there is nothing we can do. Now I’m planning to revive my team for next season,” he said.
