Ithemba Labantu Football Club from Marcus Garvey took honours at this year’s Philippi Easters Spectacular Tournament. The tournament was played at Vuyiseka Sport Complex in Philippi and the final was held last Wednesday.

The tournament featured a number of local teams, however, it was Ithemba and Standard FC that made it to the final.

After 120 minutes of action and an impromptu halting of the proceedings due to to bad light the teams could not be separated as the game ended 2 all, forcing the match into the lottery of penalties.

Ithemba prevailed 4-3 .

Despite the win Ithemba Labantu coach Nkosinathi Khambi said he was concerned about his team’s defence.

“They scored first on first half and we equalised and the same thing happened in the second half. We had problem with our defence, especially the left and right backs they were overlapping too much and that left us vulnerable at the back. When they lose the ball they take time to come back,” said Khambi.

However, he stated that they were able to keep the ball and position.

Khambi said he also needs to sharpen up the striking force.

He said they sometimes took wrong decisions in front of goals.
