It took Bathandwa Jembula almost nine years to release his solo album.

The young gospel artist, who is affectionately known in the music circles as Jembula B, released his first album titled Ziyakhul’inwele earlier this year.

The 14 song album is a fusion of traditional and worship songs.

The 30-year-old started singing at the age of 13. He sang for local gospel groups in his home town of Idutywa in the Eastern Cape.

“I started singing in 2002 for Mzamomhle Gospel Group and in 2004 I joined Mbanga YMG,” he said. Both groups were based in Idutywa.

“In 2007 I moved to Engcobo where I joined Zanokhanyo Gospel Group in Clarkebury,” Jembula B added.

He moved to Johannesburg in 2009 looking for greener pastures, but failed.

“In Johannesburg, I met with Mduduzi Mngomane where I featured in his album Amaqhinga Aphelile. Then in 2011, I joined Lilian Music Production where I tried to make an album but failed because of financial constraints,” said Jembula.

In 2014 he joined Hit After Hit Music Production where he eventually recorded his album last year.

“It wasn’t an easy journey for me to make an album. But because I have a passion and love for music I persevered till I released my first album,” he said.

Jembula B, who now resides in Philippi, said he moved to Cape Town early this year after the release of his album.

He said he has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Veliswa Skeyi, Malibongwe Gcwabe and Luleka Mhlongo.

Jembula’s album cost R70 and is only available from him. For more information contact him on 062 249 7376.
