A new group of small business owners have embarked on their journey as part of the sponsored Small Business Academy (SBA) offered by the University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB), aimed at strengthening and empowering small businesses in townships.

The nine-month programme, sponsored by its main funder Distell as well as Absa, equips small businesses owners with knowledge in small-business management, financial management, business plan development and marketing among others.

Throughout the programme the candidates are mentored by MBA and other alumni of USB, proving to be one of the most valuable assets of the programme. The group represents a number of diverse industries ranging from a tattoo studio and a funeral palour to beauty salons and the creative arts.
