FASHION designers showed their mettle at a Kasi Fashion show at Look Out Hill on Saturday.

It was hosted by Radio Zibonele presenter Ntombsie Mcetywa.

The fashion business has become a trend in kasis where young people design brands to suit their communities.

Ntombsie said most of the young designers in ekasi lacked exposure for their work since they haven’t yet grown into fully fledged businesses to effectively market themselves.

LZ Designers owner Liziwe Zigebe,25, started her business two years ago and focuses on African designs.

She said: “Events like these are crucial to my business. Our work is exposed so residents can see what we do.”

Luyanda Bhatyi, 23, from Njayempilo Designs said a local radio presenter hosting the show means the exposure is good.

“Business marketing is an important tool that links clients to products,” he said.

Ntombsie is the founder of Ntombsie Professional Models Modelling Agency.

Her young models wear products from designers exhibiting at the show and she said her projects aim to empower the kasi community.

She works with men and women models to empower them to reach greater heights in the industry.

Over 40 models took part in the show.

Residents said they only knew certain brands until now.

Neliswa Magagula,42, said: “These young people are doing well. The clothes and designs are beautiful. This event will put many brands on the map.”
