Khayelitsha Cricket Club’s (KCC) second team cemented their position on the Reserve League of the Western Province Cricket Association’s Club Cricket when they beat Northpine Cricket Club by 73 runs at the Khayelitsha Cricket Oval on Saturday 9 February.

KCC opened the batting and made 259 runs after 45 overs. In pursuit of the target Northpine were bowled out for 186.

KCC captain Mziyanda Joko said the win has put them in a good position on the log.

He said there were a few standout players from his team who saw them winning the game. “Our opening batsmen Aviwe Nomakhethe and Sive Ndukumbini made an opening partnership of 115 runs,” he said.

Joko said another standout player from his team was 13 year old Nomsa Sbunzana who took four wickets from just eight overs.

He said their biggest challenge so far is the condition of the pitch they play on because it is not watered properly because of the City of Cape Town’s water restrictions.
