The year under review (2016) has been characterised by different challenges that forced the board to reflect on its commitment and resolved that “the KCT continues to be committed to the upliftment of Khayelitsha and its people”.

Various strategies have been used to ensure that the Board together with the Executive Management achieve the set objectives in order to realise this commitment.

Different approaches have been used to address the challenges confronting KCT as the entity, some were successful and some did not labour successfully.

I would like to take this opportunity and thank the CEO and his Executive Management for steering the organisation towards the right direction in the midst of challenges they face on a day to day basis.

Also taking this opportunity to thank the Trustees for committing their time and being resourceful to the KCT as an organisation by taking timeous decisions at portfolio committees.

Not to mention their phenomenal attendance of board meetings that convened during this financial year.

I would also like to thank all the relevant stakeholders that have been working closely with us during the year under review.

Further; thanking the City of Cape Town under the stewardship of Councillor Herron, we have been able to work closely but we have turned the corner, both parties have the same object8ives; to build houses for the residents who are in need of different typology houses.

Lastly but not least, thanking all spheres of Government which have been helpful in giving advice on housing delivery options and how they can assist the KCT in achieving such objectives.

KCT management has been in negotiation with potential investors to capitalise the remaining development and assist with finalising the plans for the remaining undeveloped sites where KCT has development rights.

Special word of appreciation to Essor for a continued relationship with KCT despite challenges that KCT faced resulting in the delays of developing the housing units.

The KCT has been in search for strategic partner in acquisition for part of KCT mall in line with Khayelitsha residents requirements.

This will enable the facility to remain competitive and attract feet for the benefit of the tenants.

Negotiations are ensuing with the identified potential partner, legal procedures are being followed to ensure that the deal withstands all future inquiry and it is above board.

KCT group is growing and stages of development warranted that some sections of the group be revealed.

Such the board is busy with structuring of entities in order for the group to effectively engage with potential partners upon completion of the negotiations.

KCT group looks forward to 2017/2018 financial year where implementation of most of the plans will be taking place.

We envisage that further plans will take place at relevant structures of KCT where detail plans will be finalised and approved for implementation.

Subsidiaries will recruit relevantly skilled personnel to work for the realization of the set objectives.

KCT is looking forward to creating employment opportunities and ensuring that Khayelitsha Community benefit from the plans in place, which will be duly approved by relevant stakeholders.

.Belu-Toni is the KCT Board Chairperson and this is her report to the Annual General Meeting held at Isivivane Community Centre on Thursday December8.
