A local hairstylist is hoping that her work will not just turn heads but win over the judges in the final of the Sof’n Free HairXperts Masters Challenge 2017.

Khonaye’s rise to the summit of this competition was a surprise even to her since she was a rookie in the hair business.

“When I heard about this competition on the radio I decided to just try my luck because I was doing hair as a part time thing.

I was pleasantly surprised to see myself taking the top spot in the preliminary stages of the competition where I was against 9 other stylist,” she told City Vision.

She then went on to represent in the top 18 where she also had a good showing and she had to because she had just quit her job in retail.

“I decided to take a risk and focus on doing hair and its paying off well. Being part of this competition has given me exposure in online platforms and billboards so I have been getting clients regularly.

Its amazing because I only started doing this a year and half ago, so getting this far in the competition is just wonderful,” she said.

On Sunday she will be in Johannesburg where she will be take place in the final leg of the competition at the Kyalami Theatre on the Track.

“I don’t want to come back empty handed because my goal is to open my own salon. At the moment I am working from home... So far so good. I’m happy to be part of the competition and I have enjoyed every moment even though it is very difficult. You have to always prove yourself better,” she said.

The winner stands to win R250 000 in prizes.
