LETTER: Langa killings a nightmare

2016-11-17 06:01

I write this letter out of concern for the killing of our children in our communities.

Our streets have recently turned into blood streams. The killings and serious injuries to others is now aimed at those between the ages of 13 and 16 years old.

This should be enough to shock us to the marrow.

Just last weekend, we buried a young boy barely out of his teens, while his two friends are fighting for their lives in hospital.

Another one was brutally stabbed this past Saturday evening, not far from Zone 2.

The 13 year old and another one were rushed to hospital that evening.

The next day, on a Sunday, we received the sad news of the passing of the 13 year old boy, who had died in hospital. I would like to urge the community of kwa Langa to wake up and hold hands together with the police to fight this scourge.

I would like to urge civil organisations to voice out their concerns around this matter that ravages the streets of our community.

I find it difficult to sleep during this time, and my condolences go out to the parents who have lost their young loved ones.
