Nomalizo Zono, 43, burst into tears as she narrated her story of alleged abuse, at the hands of her husband.

She stays in the newly built complex in Langa referred to as Nkandla by its inhabitants. Now she is appealing for help.

Nomalizo said although she has been in an abusive marriage for the past three years, she has eventually decided to lay charges against him, and he has been in custody for the past two weeks as a result.

“He is a sot who takes his frustrations on me,” she alleged.

He has broken down doors and damaged household appliances, beating her up in front her children.

The mother of five kids alleges that she has lost two of her babies due to miscarriages caused by her abusive partner.

She added that when first they met, her husband was gentlemanly and as sweet as a rose. That was until they exchanged vows of marriage. “He showed his true colours after we were married in 2014. He turned to an animal. He did things he has never done before. He was abusing me physically, sexually and emotionally. Ever since we became married, my life has turned into a nightmare,” she said.

She alleges that her husband was also a sex pervert who watched porn and took out his fantasies on her in turn.

She said even pleas for help from the man’s family were ignored. City Vision is in possession of sms exchanges between Nomalizo and her mother-in-law. City Vision contacted Nomalizo’s mother-in-law, a teacher at Zimasa Primary School in Langa for comment, however, she refused citing that the matter is handled by the police.

Langa police station Communications Officer Captain Nondumiso Paul confirmed that a case of domestic violence and abuse had been opened at the station.

“The suspect, Mzwandile Zono was charged with domestic violence and spousal abuse. He has been found guilty and remanded in custody. Sentencing has been set for 23 April 2018 in the Bishop Lavis magistrates court.”

Nomalizo has urged other women who are in the same situation to stand up and break the silence of abusive relationships and domestic violence.
