Influential business people gathered at Guga S’theba in Langa last week, for a business dialogue in the quest to help young and upcoming entrepreneurs.

Speakers included Elli Yiannakaris from the Raymond Ackerman Academy (RAA), Sipho Mona of Velokhaya Life Cycling Academy and Siviwe Mbinda of Vamos Tours.

Event organiser Siseko Mngxali said they decided to host the dialogue after noticing that aspiring business people from the townships struggled to get help. He said most did not know where to go and the dialogue created a perfect networking platform.

“We want all the money that comes into Langa, for instance to circulate in Langa, and not go someone else. So we encourage businesses to know and support each other,” he said.

Mngxali said they wanted to create a social capital, a coherent sustainable economic ecosystem and create linkages between corporate companies.

He said that the dialogue was the second they have hosted and they are hoping to go to other townships as well.

“Those that were in attendance are calling for more such events and even those that were not there want to be involved the next time,” he said.

Mbinda of Vamos tours said such dialogues are very important because a person might have a business idea and not know where to get help.

He said sharing their stories on the genesis of their businesses will also help, because they might be going through the same struggles.

Mbinda added that he also mentors or helps anyone who wants start their own business. Yiannakaris said they are passionate about youth development and it is therefore important to support and engage different communities and initiatives such as business dialogues to create awareness about their opportunities.
