Grade 12 learners from Isilimela Comprehensive High School in Langa were honoured for their hard work during the current academic year on Saturday 19 October. The school hosted a valedictory where top achievers received recognition for their good performance throughout the year. Dressed in graduation gowns, top performers for the year got the recognition certificates.School’s deputy principal Thobeka Dlali said: “We felt we needed to honour our students for the hard work they have put in throughout the year and motivate them at the same time.”She said the recognition will also help the learners in future and advised them to add the information in their CVs.Former learner Dr Nombeko Mbava motivated the learners. “The reason we invited Nombeko was to show that your background does not determine your future,” said Dlali.Mbava described the interaction with learners as important. She said it is vital for young people to hear about experiences of successful people who studied at local schools. She encouraged them to commit to their studies and understand that their future is in their hands. “I told them that one day it will be them standing in front of learners motivating them to do better,” she said.Mbava said it was particularly important to speak to Grade 12 learners because having a matric certificate opens a lot of doors.
