‘Light bulb moment’ for thieves

A man has been arrested following a number of cases of vandalism of police vehicles at the Nyanga police Station.

According to the police the 19 year old was caught in the act on Monday while breaking into a parked vehicle, busy with removing a light bulb.

“The suspect was caught by a police member in broad-daylight and was arrested immediately. This is after a number of vehicles parked outside the station were broken into and found either without a battery or light bulbs,” said Nyanga spokesperson Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi.

The man appeared at the Philippi Magistrate Court facing charges of malicious damage to roperty.

He was on of the 103 suspects arrested in the past week by Nyanga Saps.

“Twenty six suspects were apprehended for drugs, 16 for assault with intention to do grevious bodily harm, three for rape, five for possession of stolen motor vehicles, six for dealing in liquor and possession of an illegal firearm,” said Sitshitshi.

Some suspects were apprehended for various crimes ranging from housebreaking and theft, carjacking, domestic violence and intimidation. Suspects appeared in different Magistrate Courts and others are appearing today on the mentioned charges, she said.
