Khayelitsha business owners held a Township and Rural Development Drive event in an effort to create awareness about the various businesses and tourism operators in the area.
The event was held at Velokhaya Life Cycling Academy last Friday. During the event there was a craft exhibition, food and coffee manufacturing.
Velokhaya Life Cycling Academy media manager Shaun Doch said their aim was to bring the tourism sector in the area together and showcase fine dining venues.
“The concept came after local business owners decided to have our own representatives in the tourism department and the City so that we can work together and develop our businesses and services,” he said.
Doch said their wish is to develop Khayelitsha into a business hub on its own.
“This is the first that we have an event like this in Khayelitsha.
And Khayelitsha is a developing area, with places like rands for nightlife revellers and the Lookout Hill for daylight activities, and these we are looking forward to make them big,” said Doch.
Owner of Sikiz Koffee Kafe in Litha Park, Sikelela Dibela, described the event as one for the opening of opportunities for them as young business people.
“It gives us the opportunity to meet different people, particularly those working in the tourism industry.
This also allows us a platform to promote our products within the townships because not everyone knows about us,” said Dibela. Publicity is well worth the effort.
