Kuyakhanya Productions is exploring and spreading its wings after recently hosting a beauty contest at the Lwandle Migrant Labour Museum.

The Mr and Miss Kuyakhanya was staged at the museum on Friday 1 March.

Although it was the first time Kuyakhanya hosted such an event, the company believes more such opportunities will materialise in the near future.

It believes the event’s success is an indicator of Lwandle young people’s enthusiasm for such events.

Kuyakhanya also used the event to fundraise for its upcoming Thola Festival, also to be staged at the museum from Friday 22 to Saturday 23 March.

In Friday’s show 15 models strutted their stuff on the catwalk. Kuyakhanya’s Yandisa Magagana told City Vision the event showed there was much talent in Lwandle.

He promised that from next year, the company would run such a contest continuously and empower young up-and-coming models from the area.

Khanyiso Thakholi, also from Kuyakhanya, said the company approached models from the agencies in the area and on the streets.

“Though this was the first time we hosted the event, the turnout was good,” he said. “One had to pay R15 to enter, but people still came to support us. We really thank everyone who turned up on the day.”

As the contest grows in the future, it will provide exposure for many young people of the area, Thakholi added.

“As Kuyakhanya Productions we don’t want to limit ourselves to art and stage productions, but also venture into other areas,” he related.

Thakholi believes this will do wonders for the community and will boost businesses operating in the area in future.
