The newly formed football team from Heinz Park received a hiding when it was demolished 9-2 by Young Tigers FC from Phola Park, in a friendly match played at Vuyiseka Sports Centre on Sunday 17 November.

Magwaza FC was established last month in a quest to keep the youth from the area busy.

Coach Ayabonga Tati described the match as the yardstick. He said they are preparing to play in the Philippi East Football Association next season. “We tested the waters with this game. We want to see which departments need to be strengthened so that we can go out and look for players. I’m happy that we managed to score two goals which means we were able to penetrate their defence,” he said. Tati cited fitness of his players as the main challenge. “Since we established the team we were struggling to get a training venue. We trained only for four days,” he stated. However, he urged the supporters to be patient. Tati appealed to the local businesses to assist them with the equipment.
