The Western Cape Provincial Parliament’s Standing Committee on Finance will, as part of its constitutional mandate, conduct a public hearing on the National Gambling Amendment Bill on Friday 22 February.

The standing committee invites stakeholders, interested people and organisations to attend the hearing and to make written submissions on the bill.

The purpose of the bill is to provide for:

. The reconfiguration of the National Gambling Board, which will become the National Gambling Regulator led by a chief executive officer without a board structure.

. The automatic forfeiture of unlawful winnings to the National Gambling Regulator.

. The quorum of the National Gambling Policy Council to make a final decision in the second meeting, with the majority of the members present in that meeting.

. The extension of the National Central Electronic Monitoring System to other modes of gambling.

. The enhancement of the powers of the national inspectorate to curb illegal gambling activities.

. The amendment and deletion of certain definitions. and

. Transitional arrangements.

The public hearing will take place at 08:00 in the chamber on the 6th Floor, Western Cape Provincial Parliament, 7 Wale Street, Cape Town.
