After having to grow up and be a man of the house at a young age a man from Philippi is appealing for help to bury his mother, the only living parent he had.

The 20-year-old Siyanda Nyovana and his little brother Sanele Nyovana (12) lost their mother Nozipho Nyovana on Wednesday 26 June after a long illness.

“When my mother got sick last year I had to take care of her and my little brother,” he said.

He said at the time he was doing Grade 11 at Intsebenziswano High School but it was too much for him as he wanted to go to school but had to juggle between school and taking care of his family.

Siyanda said they have nothing at home and he does not know how he is going to bury his mother because they are both still in school. “I wish we can get help so we can give my mother a dignified funeral because that is what she deserves,” he said.

He said any help they can get would be appreciated.

Siyanda also said he wishes that they can get a decent place to stay because the shack they live in is in a bad condition and because it’s winter it rains and they do not have electricity. This makes it difficult for him to study.

A neighbour Ncediwe Mdede said the life that Siyanda has to live is not good for any child.

She said he could have chosen the life of crime like many of his peers but he chose to go to school and take care of his mother and brother.

Mdede added that they are praying for the two boys every day so they do not end up doing wrong things.

Phone Siyanda on 064 077 1005 to help.
