Persistence and dedication are what makes Manini Fatyela successful in life.

The Khayelitsha businesswoman owns a restaurant at the Isivivana Centre next to Khayelitsha Mall.

She said she started a catering business in 2007.

“I was catering at local weddings, school farewells, graduations, government departments and so on.

Then in 2015 I bought a mobile trailer , which I stationed at the Ace Groova Park in Litha Park, selling refreshments and meat,” said Fatyela.

She said she didn’t stay for too long at Groover Park and open her restaurant at Isivivana Cafe last year.

“After I opened the restaurant, I stopped selling at the Groover Park and focused all energies to the cafe because I couldn’t juggle being both at Groover Park and at this restaurant,” she said, adding that she has a passion for what she is doing.

“I wanted to be hands on and focus on my business without being distracted. And we do get support mostly from people working in the mall and taxi operators. Even though many people don’t know about it,” she said.

Fatyela explained that they are working form Mondays to Fridays.

“We open on Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. We only open on weekends and public holidays on request, if there is an event that is going to happen in the centre and people ask us.

Because sometimes people have their events or promotions so they normally ask us to open so that their people can be able to get a place to buy lunch,” she emphasised.

The cafe has about six staff members, but she explained that they only hire more people if they are going to have a big event.

One of the customers, Mandisa Lose described staff members as friendly.

“What I like about it they sell us fresh food. And if you have a complaint about anything they attend to it immediately,” she said.

The restaurant also sells staple food, including coffee at affordable prices.
