The group called Abanqobi Bezizwe which was established early last year is a collaboration of maskandi artists from Khayelitsha. One of the group members Mzuyeza Sam, known as Soundmind by his supporters, described their collaboration as a huge achievement. He said it solidify their relationship as artists. “We are a group of three young artists. It’s me Soundmind, Scorpion and Baphushe. We all have our solo albums. We used to feature on each other’s albums and people loved us when we were performing and asked us to do collaborations,” he said. Soundmind described their 16 track album as incredible. “Our album accommodates everyone. It is a fusion of gospel and sound from Eastern Cape and bit from KwaZulu Natal,” he said. Soundmind described Amawele ka Mamtshawe as their role models. Like any other young artists, they are performing at taxi ranks to promote their album. “We also perform at weddings and special occasions when we are invited,” he stated adding that they’ve been performing in various areas including Kraaifontein, Du Noon, Fish Hoek, Samora Machel, Nyanga and Langa.
