Maveletshisa has taken the maskhandi industry to another level after releasing his second album called Igama Lam early this year.

Maveletshisi, whose real name is Bonga Nyamakazi, is originally from Willowvale in the Eastern Cape but now resides in Harare.

The 34-year-old describes his album as a must-have. The 12-song album has already sold more than 20 000 copies.

“I released this album in January this year. Everybody likes it. Wherever I perform people love my music,” said Maveletshisa.

He said he grew up playing the guitar but when he arrived in Cape Town other maskhandi artists taught him how to play it (the guitar) for maskhandi. “When I arrived in Cape Town in 2015 I met with other maskhandi artists, Hlabelimzondayo and Cellular, who taught me how to play the guitar. In 2016, I released my first album called Size Ngoxolo which didn’t do well in the market,” he said. “If it wasn’t for pirate copies I would’ve sold more copies. Pirating is killing us as artists because they are selling our music for cheap.”

Maveletshisa said he grew up listening to Bhekumuzi Luthuli and Soul Brothers.

He said his music is about his experience and life in general.

Like any other artist, he is performing at taxi ranks, various ceremonies, malls and train stations. The album costs R70 and is available from him.

Anyone who wants to book him or buy an album call him on 063 359 9928.
