Three people were arrested after a meat delivery truck was hijacked in Philippi last week.Nyanga police spokesperson Capt Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi said on Tuesday 28 April the truck was hijacked at Ramaphosa informal settlement at about 09:00. The truck was heading to a Gugulethu store and the robbers pounced while it was idling at the robots on Govan Mbeki and Steve Biko roads. It is alleged three armed men threatened the driver and his two passengers with two firearms, demanded keys and instructed the two occupants to sit at the back. They then ordered the driver to drive to the informal settlement, where the suspects offloaded some of the meat. Sitshitshi said the driver was then ordered to drive out of the area. As the truck left the informal settlement, the driver spotted a police vehicle and asked for help. Sitshitshi said when police opened the truck they found one of the suspects inside. The other two suspects were arrested with the meat in their possession when police moved into the area. She said all three suspects aged 23, 29 and 42 are expected to appear in court on charges of hijacking and possession of stolen property.
