Medics robbed by one of their own

A Mitchells Plain paramedic has been arrested after allegedly robbing his colleagues and hijacking an ambulance last week.

The man handed himself over to the Khayelitsha police following the incident.

It’s alleged he and an accomplice ambushed Emergency Medical Services personnel while attending to a patient in Site C, where they made off with a cellphone before driving off in the ambulance.

They later abandoned the vehicle in another section of the township.

The second culprit has not been arrested yet because he is still on the run.

Police’s Noloyiso Rwexana says officers later learned the suspect is also a paramedic.

“A 31-year-old suspect is expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court on Friday, after an incident that occurred yesterday(Thursday) in Khayelitsha where paramedics were robbed.”
