Message to the new KDF

2017-07-20 06:00

I wish to say the following to the newly elected committee of the Khayelitsha Dvelopment Forum: I hope you know that leadership is not about the wearing of badges or being the position, but about what you do, now that you have the baton firmly in your hands.

Aspire to become great through hard work. Building a great Khayelitsha is the task each of us is faced with, and not only of the KDF leadership.

However, it is their duty to lead us and our duty to direct them where necessary.

Khayelitsha is a land of self-determination. The opportunities are enormous.

I believe we all know that leaders are not born and infallible, but are shaped by their journey and experience.

Khayelitsha needs leaders that will blow hot and cold at the same time. I am taking about disciplined, morally guided, tried and tested leaders. Not self-enriching leaders while Khayelitsha development stands still.

Each and everyone in leadership needs to have passion to lead with great zeal and commitment.

Leadership has to recognise that sustainable development, democracy, unity and peace in Khayelitsha are indivisible. This can be done by listening, consulting, speaking for the people.

The mandate has been set out, now is the time to act and not just talk.

Don’t say a lot, but show results. Don’t promise, just prove. I believe you will be where people are and speak about what is key to their issues. The reason I go this route is linked to the fact that I am and have always been an activist!
