Mfuleni entrepreneurs have come full circle.

With the launch of the Mfuleni Business Forum (MBF) last week Friday, the small business owners said their aim was to make a formidable business structure in the area.

The event was held at Chris Hani Community Hall.

Business people from various business sectors said the time was ripe to come together.

“It is a stepping stone to the future,” said Chuma Mqhayi, the owner of Zinhanha Enterprises.

She operates in the catering, construction and supply sector.

“Now we will have a mouthpiece for the small businesses in Mfuleni.

“We will be well represented and be organised. We will know where to go as business owners when we have a problem. And this will help us to work as a group , and not as individuals,” she added.

Mqhayi said fighting individual battles impeded progress. “The forum is going to fight for our rights as (small) business people,” she said.

Sicelo Mpemba, MBF secretary, described the forum as an umbrella body of all business forums in Mfuleni. “There are ward business forums in the area. And by launching MBF, this will encompass all the forums,”.

Mpemba, who trades in the media space, said the forum was established in July 2018 after it emerged that their trading conditions left more to be desired.

He said the forum has 17 business sectors under its wing, and that their aim was to keep the economy of Mfuleni inside the area, and to assist businesses with the necessary requirements in order to apply and qualify for tenders.

“Many of the companies that operate here are from outside, we need to internalise our local economy.”
