Motorists warned of robbery

Motorists driving e in the Nyanga area have been warned to look out for a new method used by criminals to rob them.

Nyanga police say that robbers now place bricks on the N2, particularly the Borcheds Quarry turn-off into Nyanga.

“The bricks are placed by criminals whose intentions are to rob the motorists. These incidents occur at any time of the day. We urge motorists to always be vigilant and be aware of their surroundings when driving in the mentioned areas,” said police spokesperson Captain Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi.

She said that motorists must at all times be on the look-out for suspicious individuals roaming in the said places.

“They must avoid driving with windows open and keep doors locked at all times. They must at all times keep valuables out of sight of the criminals and avoid using cell phones while driving.

Motorists should as well always keep a safe distance to enable one to drive away if anything might happen,” she said. She urged motorist to report suspicious behaviour in this area to the police.

The Nyanga cluster also reported a large number of arrests in the area this week with more 532 suspects arrested as a result of operations.

The Nyanga cluster includes the following police stations Gugulethu, Manenberg, Philippi East, Eesteriver and Nyanga. “416 of these were people who were in possession of dangerous weapons. R5000 worth of fines were issued for traffic violations
