All nine accused who appeared at Strand Magistrates’ Court on Monday 27 May on various charges were denied bail.

Police say thorough investigation by detectives and crime prevention unit members, on Thursday evening, 23 May, led to the arrest of nine suspects.

The detectives were tasked with tracking down house robbery and murder suspects.

Police spokesperson Sgt Mthokozisi Gama told City Vision seven of the suspects were between the age of 20 and 27.

All were arrested at the same address in Pholile informal settlement.

Gama said police searched the house and found one illegal firearm with live ammunition and a toy gun.

“A case of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition was opened,” he said. “Police detectives are hard at work trying to link these suspects with house robbery incidents which occurred in Lwandle.”

Another two suspects, aged 26 and 27, were arrested for attempted murder on 2 May in Lwandle, where the complainant was shot in the left leg after arguing with the two suspects.

All the arrested individuals are due back at Strand Magistrates’ Court on 6 June.

Lwandle station commander Col Xolani Williams commended the members for the sterling work done.
