Simphiwe Mahlanyana has introduced Karate in the community of Lower Crossroads in a bid to instil discipline among youth.

He started Philippi East Dojo Club in October last year and teaches Goju Ryu Kuyukai.

He said he decided to open the club in the community to give the youth and children something to do.

“We all know that these days youth gets into drugs and alcohol abuse and the life of crime because they do not have anything to do so this is my way of giving them another alternative,” he said.

He said he gets a lot of support from the community and that so far he has about 15 students in the club. Anyone who wants to join the club can visit them at the Philippi East Hall on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 18:00 to 19:00.
