On Saturday night the RCS Gugulethu Athletics Club hosted its awards ceremony for the second year running at the Athlone Stadium.

The event contained all the glitz and glamour as the winners and members of the racing fraternity came out in droves to support their heroes and fellow runners.

It was held to honour its top athletes across the spectrum, from track, field, cross-country and road running, who shined in the 2016 season.

Guests and winners alike were treated to good food, music and other entertainment.

According to Thobile Ndzube, Gugs RCS chairman, the awards were a way of saying to the athletes, “keep up the good work and to encourage them to perform even better... we hope to see future stars coming out of the club.”

Ndzube said judging by the numbers in attendance and this year’s performance, the club was well set to produce new blood.

“We have grown in magnitude and I can see fresh blood on the horizon, coming to take their rightful place on the podium.”
