Actors of the Mzantsi Magic drama series, Nkulileko, converged on the Khayelitsha Mall last Friday.

The tour to the sprawling township was, in part, to meet and socialise with fans of the drama series and get to see them in real life.

The fans were, in turn, also entertained with music and also given a chance to ask their star questions.

About eight cast members of Nkululeko attended the event, among them, Aphiwe Mkefe, who plays the role of Nkululeko, Abongilie Sallie, who plays Buhle, Zizipho Buti, who plays Pinkie, Thembekile Komani, who plays Zuks, Lunga Nogqala, who plays the role of Mzu, Misha Solanga, as Babalwa, Thando Jikwa plays as Thando and Ayanda Magam as Bathandwa

Solanga said they want their fans to see them in person.

“Nkululeko is a township story which is shot in Khayelitsha. We want people to know us so that we can able to create a good relationship with them. We don’t want people to see us only on television as if we are coming from other provinces. All of us who are here today are from the local townships, with some from Langa, Khayelitsha and other places,” she said.

Solanga also described their tour as part of giving back to their community.

“Wherever we go, we receive a great reception, which shows that people love and appreciate what we are doing. When we visiting them (communities), this is our way of expressing our gratitude,” she added.

She encouraged her peers to follow their dreams and not to give up on them. Mkefe, who plays the main character, said there are similarities between him and the character n he portrays: “Nkululeko is shy, shrewd, but likes school and is very ambitious. That is a kind of person I am in real life. But Nkululeko is teenager, a 17 year old trying to experience life which some of the things that I went through in real life,” said the 23 year old Mkefe. However, he refused to divulge the story line about his character and asked people to be glued on television every Sunday at eight in the evening.

One star-struck resident, Nonceba Mgobo from Montclair in Mitchells Plain, said he is delighted to see the actors live and be able to socialise with them.
