The third vehicle hijacked from ACJ Phakade Primary School in Nomzamo last week has yet to be recovered.

The grey Toyota Fortuner, with registration CEY 21610, is still at large after two other vehicles were recovered last week.

Police also confirmed to City Vision that they have not made any arrests, despite the school providing CCTV footage of the assailants brandishing guns and pouncing on unsuspecting teachers as they arrived at the school on the morning of Monday 18 June (“‘Schools under siege’”, City Vision, 21 June).

The incident occurred at 07:40. No shots were fired and no-one was injured.

Thobile Majingo, the school principal, confirmed to City Vision that the vehicle had not yet been recovered.

“On Monday, I called the teacher to find out if the car had been found,” he said. “But, to date, we can confirm the car has not been recovered.”

One of the cars, a Hyundai Accent, was found abandoned in Macassar the same day, and the second car, a Toyota Etios, was found in Sithunzi Street, Nomzamo on Tuesday.

Last Tuesday (19 June), Debbie Schäfer, provincial education minister, also visited the school to express her shock at the incident and to show support for the school teachers.

This was the fifth attack at a Cape school, following four other similar incidents in Khayelitsha, over the last month.

As in the case of the Khayelitsha incidents, a reward of R10 000 has been promised to anyone with positive information that can lead to the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.
