A 30-year-old man was arrested by Lwandle police after he was found to in possession of ammunition without a licence.

According to Sergeant Mthokozisi Gama, spokesperson for Lwandle police, the man was apprehended during patrols on Sunday 19 August. “The patrols were conducted in the precinct with the intention of curbing street robberies and apprehending those involved,” he said.

After receiving a tip-off on a recently reported case, the police’s crime prevention team followed up the information and searched the man in Simon Street, Nomzamo.

He was arrested after he was apparently found in possession of an imitation firearm and three live rounds of ammunition, Gama explained.

“The suspect confessed to the police officers that he had been in possession of the imitation firearm for the past two weeks,” he added.

“When the officers searched his house, they also found two suspected stolen cellphones.”

The man was arrested and charged with possession of ammunition without a licence, an unlicensed firearm and suspected stolen property.

He was due to appear in Strand Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (22 August).
