‘Not a police domain’

Lwandle police clarifies that they do not play any part in the selling and buying of property.

But they advise community members who are interested in selling or purchasing property to follow the legal route, which comprises the correct process of conveyancing, title deed registration and payment.

In a statement, the police stated following this legal route will limit disputes between the various parties, as well as assist them in acquiring proper documentation.

Sergeant Mthokozisi Gama, spokesperson for Lwandle police, said they issued the statement on their stance after several property dispute matters were reported at the station. In all reported incidents, the community requested police intervention.

“The complainant will seek intervention when the agreement between the parties is not honoured or when the spouses or family members dispute the sale,” Gama explained.

“They also approach police when they need affidavits to confirm sales transactions.”

Gama advised the community to seek legal advice on other aspects from a law firm, legal clinic or an estate agent before commencing the process of selling or buying property.
