Nyanga Development Forum was launched at Zolani Centre on Saturday.
Secretary Khwezi Tyatyam said the forum was established in August 2017.
The launch was held because the members wanted more people to find out about the forum.
“We didn’t want residents to have no idea what we do and who we are,” said Tyatyam.
He said the members would work hard to make sure the forum doesn’t disband like the one formed in 2008.
“Back then, there was no communication with the residents. We won’t repeat our mistakes.
“There is no development in our area. That is why we decided to reopen the forum.”
Treasurer Zanele Zingela said some of the forum’s members are living with disabilities.
She said that disabled members had a lot of useful information for the public.
Organiser Mzikayise Manciya said the forum will tackle problems such as abuse, crime and education.
“When people come to us with their problems, we refer them to our partners, who help them deal with whatever they are facing,” said Manciya.
He said the forum is grateful to all the businesses that helped them with the launch.
“Without local businesspeople, we wouldn’t be here today. We thank them for coming on board.”
Resident Nonceba Khambule (34) said: “I didn’t know there was a forum in Nyanga. The launch was a good idea because now we know they are here.
