Open invitation to all aspiring traffic officers

2018-07-12 06:00

Are you younger than 35 and driven to make the Western Cape’s provincial roads safer for all road users?

Are you willing to work in one of the province’s smaller traffic centres?

Are you willing to go the extra mile, working shifts on weekends and public holidays?

If your answer to all of these questions is “yes”, and you do not have a criminal record, are in possession of at least a Code B licence, with at least a matric or equivalent, and are physically fit and able to do strenuous exercises, you may want to apply for one of the vacant trainee traffic officer posts at the provincial traffic centres in Vredendal, Vredenburg, Mossel Bay, Knysna, Laingsburg or Oudtshoorn.

Successful applicants will be eligible to do the 12-month traffic officer’s training course at Gene Louw Traffic College in Brackenfell.

Candidates will be expected to arrange their own accommodation while completing the course.

Trainees will learn the theoretical aspects of being a traffic officer in the lecture room, and the practical aspects through deployment in the field.

Those who successfully complete the course will graduate with a Further Education and Training (FET) Certificate in Road Traffic Law Enforcement.

The Department of Transport and Public Works, through its provincial traffic services provide an around-the-clock traffic law enforcement service.

After they have successfully completed their training, appointed traffic officers will be expected to work shifts, including public holidays and Sundays, and be willing to work additional hours, if required.

Interested parties can visit the Western Cape government website for more information.

The closing date is Monday 23 July.
