The founder of Dangerous Movers Youth Group from Maumau in Nyanga, Sibongile Hlathi, is appealing to the community to assist his organisation with funds to buy uniforms and a sound system.

The group which has 25 members was established in May this year in an attempt to lure children away from the streets. Some of the things that the group is doing is poetry, drama and different kinds of dance including traditional, hip-hop, contemporal and modern.

Hlathi (26) said his objective is to change the bad perception that people have about Maumau. “There is a high crime rate, gangsterism and teenage pregnancy in the area. By doing this we want to keep the children busy,” he said. Hlathi said his wish is to see his organisation grow and become well-known. “There are many children who are talented but they need people to guide them.

“To me it is not about the money but to give children a platform where they can express themselves,” said Hlathi adding that not all children are good in their academics.

He said most of the time they are performing around Nyanga. From Mondays to Fridays after school they are practising at Linge Primary School and on Saturdays at Shawco offices in the area.

He emphasised that the donation doesn’ t have to be cash, it can be a voucher.
