Our dreams have now turned to nightmare

2017-06-01 06:00

I want to draw your attention to this recurring dream I have.

Dreams are moments in time that occur in one’s sleep.

But once you are aroused from sleep, they seem like a puff. Gone.

Dreams can be tricky whilst your are in them or in a state. They seem so real that you are in a permanent state of happiness.

Depending whether they are good or bad. If it is the latter, the relief is immense.

We all go through dreams.

Some have happy endings and some are horrific.

In some cultures, dreams are a manifestation of instructions we should adhere to.

That they are an ancestral connection or injunction.

I’m talking real dreams, and not some puffed up state or moments of turning on the other side and thinking these are real dreams.

In the past, there were people who could claim to translate dreams.

However, things seem to have changed since then.

For instance, people would claim betting numbers have been revealed to them, and voilà, win in the horse races.

For the present generation of lotto players, no numbers seem to appear in their dreams. Dololo.

I said earlier that I have recurring dreams, that started since the new dispensation was ushered in.

In these dreams, there was a bright future for our people.

How I wished the dream to be an everlasting one and not wake up from it. A permanent state of Nirvana, you could say.

I became so besotted with this dream over time that waking up was not a disruption for me, as instead, I knew that the dream would come in my sleep again.

Years went by, and suddenly this dream turned into a nightmare, and I would wake up feeling drearier than was the case before.

The dreams have become so surreal, its like deja vu. Been there, done that, thanks-a-lot.

When we wake up to hear or see the mess around us these day, isn’t like re-living a bad dream?

Things people do to each other are so imaginable to the human mind.

The atrocities and heinous acts they commit are so unreal as to happen only in our dreams.

Mzantsi seems to be in a permanent state of a grotesque nightmare in all its meanings.

What went wrong? What have people discovered that is making them do the things they are doing?

The dream we all shared of seeing and living in peaceful and free Mzantsi is just a dream gone awfully wrong.

I appeal, for once that we all make our dreams more peaceful and happy ones so that when we wake up each day we are breathing, we are surrounded by an air of happiness and peace.

To wake up in a country where everyone is safe and where our women and kids are safe and free from these gruesome acts of violence and that we walk the streets free of crime and drug abuse.

Do you know how happy we could be if each of us could start sharing in one dream: making Mzantsi a better place for everyone, where we look forward to being alive.
