Money makes the world go round. It can make you or break you. If you are not used to dealing with lots of dollar bills growing up then you face a huge challenge when you come across lots of rands.

We have seen many people becoming millionaires or even billionaires overnight and have watched in horror as same wealth is depleted.

In the list stories that we have heard are those of individuals who have been exposed to loads of cash, only for them to be poor again.

This brings me to the recent case of the student who received millions of rand in her account after she had applied for a loan from the student loan agency.

She went on an excessive buying spree. There is a lot of speculation as to what she has done with the money, but the bottom line is that its not all money well spent.

Questions also about. Growing up or coming from a family that had a business we were always reminded that if you pick up anything that belongs to someone else, especially a wallet, you made sure to hand it over to an adult so they hand it back to its rightful owner.

Upon receiving their wallet, it was the owner’s prerogative to show appreciation in whatever manner.

Does this ethic still hold substance today.

We believe or have adopted the sentiment that: ‘Uthixo akaphi ngasandla”.

People tend to “show off” their wealth nowadays.

They want to be known for being rich.

Once we have money, we go on splashing it and indulging in an expensive lifestyle.

We live and spend the money as if there is no tomorrow.

Our townships are full of stories of individuals who were once “warm”, colloquially speaking.

Still, with all these stories being told as part of our townships folklore, we see our brothers and sisters doing the same mistakes as other before them. Wasting money as if the world ends today. In life if we do not learn from little mistakes of others, going forward, we will never attain the dream of a better and positive life. A lesson here is that lets be money wise as we are living in tough times. As for the blunder that the student loan agency committed in giving that girl 14 millions rands, its not for me to decide
